These four coasters by Thomas Holland are in great condition and an identical pair of the same date and maker is to be found at the Yale University Art Gallery according to Beth Carver’ Wees’s research of the silver at the Sterling and Francine Clarke Institute at Williamstown.  Beth gives information on many similar pieces decorated by Thomas Holland at this time and describes the scene on the left as “Psyche Wounded and Bound by Cupids” which she says may have been adapted by Wedgwood from an ancient gem illustrated by B. de Montfaucon, while the group of figures on the right hand side is also seen on Wedgwood pieces, in particular a bowl in the Schreiber collection.  They were made in London in 1807, measure 5.6” (14cm) diameter, 2” (5cm) to rim.
