They are engraved with a family crest ( Boar's head erased) and motto Vi Aut Virtute (by Force or by Virtue) and interlaced initials RDMC, for Roderick Donald Matheson Chisholm, 28th Chief of Clan Chisholm of Erchless Castle, near inverness, Scotland
