An unusual large pair of embossed, chased and applied “Tennier” inspired salt cellars.

The 17th century Flemish artist David Tenniers the younger, was known for his prolific output of peasant life, depicting village scenes taverns and farmers and was considered one of the most important Flemish painters of the century as court painter of the Spanish governor of the Netherlands and Archduke Leopold Wilheim of Astria.

These salts are in wonderful crisp condition with no wear to the surface decoration and gilt interior. They were made in London is 1846 by John Figg and measure 9cm across the base and stands 7cm high and together weigh 516g.
