A fine and rare, heavy Scottish Tankard, made in Edinburgh in 1715 by William Ged.  The domed, molded top surmounted by a turned acorn finial and the hinge thumbpiece  mounted by an acanthus leaf .  Banded cylindrical body with circular molded foot.  The colour of this tankard is superb as is its condition.  Engraved opposite the handle with contemporary initials "WC" above "MG", it measures 7.5" (19cm) to the top of the thumbpiece.
