J
H Bourdon-Smith Ltd are a family firm established by
John Bourdon-Smith whose first purchase of silver was
an etui of c1815, for which he paid £4, in 1951. He
has progressed from careering round the country on a
second hand motorbike, moving to our current premises
in Mason’s Yard in 1978. The business is
now run by Edward, John and Charmian Bourdon-Smith, aided
by Robyn Mercer and Luke Schrager.
We deal in antique and modern silver from the 16th century
to the present day, specialising in early spoons, collectables
and good house-furnishing objects from the Georgian and Victorian
periods, with an emphasis on English, Scottish and Irish silver
including all the provincial centres of the British Isles.
Whether
advising international museums and private collectors across
the world with the acquisition of important objects or assisting
first time buyers, we aim to provide a friendly, professional
service. Provenance is provided wherever
possible, with a strong emphasis on heraldry. If you
are either buying or selling silver, we are always willing
to impart our knowledge and advice.
Members
of the British Antique Dealers’ Association,
CINOA and the Silver Society, we have exhibited our treasures
in Australia, the Far East, Europe, Canada and the USA and
continue to participate at many of the world’s premiere
antique fairs.

small proportion of the extensive stock from our ground floor
gallery and strong-roomis illustrated. We aim to
keep this updated regularly but please contact us if you have
